PHOTOGRAPHY BY KARSTEN PETERSEN - PAGE 01
This photo from 1985 I like because of the contrast between the mighty cathredral - and this very small boy standing in awe in front of the cathredral gate - - -
Roskilde Cathredral is famous - and on Unesco's list of "World Heritage Sites" - because here the Kings and Queens of Denmark - with a few exeptions - are buried - and Denmark is - after all - the oldest Kingdom in the world, where the same family has ruled since the Vikings - - -
It might have been a little too early to show this to a small boy, but I loved to take him around to see and absorb - and maybe even understand - what he saw?
But it's a great photo - and the little boy is clearly impressed - - :-) :-) :-)
King Frederik the 9th. was a sailor King - very interested in everything maritime - and when he died in 1972, I was in Otaru in northern Japan onboard the M/S "Boribana" - when we heard that the King was dead - - -
And it winter - and bitterly cold in Otaru, but what a party that initiated in the small bars in Otaru in order to honor the old King - - -
The King is dead - Long live the King - - -
This photop I am not sure about - - -
My memory tells me that it is from some pagoda in Singapore - and maybe it could be - if the year really is 1970?
This lovely little Chinese girl is not a street photo like the previous ones, - but shows Toto - the daughter of the Wong family where I had rented a room - - -
The photo is taken at a playground jusr near the Wong family's apartment- and the little girl was of course very interested in this big "gwei-lo" that suddenly moved in with them - --
This photo - above - and the next photo below are both from the San-Feng-Kung temple by the Lotus Lake in Kaohsiung - Taiwan - - -
The San-Feng-Kung temple did not only perform the usual spiritual temple activities, but also involved itself with a acupunkture hospital - and furthermore the monks also educated the young people in playing traditional Chinese music with traditional instruments - like the "kota" above - - -
The photo below has an unusual lightning, where the light does not illuminate the front and the face, - but came in from the back - - -
Of course I could NOT disturb the young lady by asking her to turn around in order to get the light in from the front - - -
What to do then????
Well - I just took the photo with whatever light was available - and - surprise - the photo gave me a 1st. prize at a photo contest - - -
So you see, - a photo can still give some great "feeling" even if the light is wrong - - -
Here I am back at sea again - and passing the Bermuda Triangle - -
One day this phenomenon occured - - - The ocean boiling - - -
Well - of course the ocean was not boiling, but the phenomenon occurs when air and water of differen temeratures - warm and cold - meet, - and mist develops so that it looks like boiling - - -
And with a crazy, dark sky above - with Sun rays inbetween - it felt like magic - sailing through some crazy fantasy ocean in another - unreal - World - - -
VERY beautiful - and VERY impressive, - but also somewhat scary - - -
