The Ci'an Pagoda is not an old one - - -

It was built in 1971 - just a couple of years before I arrived to the Sun Moon Lake.

It is 46 meters high and was erected by President Chiang Kai-chek, in memory of his mother - - -

1973-13-055 - A little outside Taichung - is a small mountain - Baguashan - with a lot of Buddhist activities going on. The city is named Changhua - and here you can find this great Buddha - 22 meters tall - -

1973-13-079 - Also in the Taichung area - and not far from the Baguashan big Buddha you can find an even bigger one - 27 meters tall . It's the Milefo Buddha at the Baojue Temple - - - I only took this one photo of Milefo because he is so big - and NOT because I particularly like this type of Chinese

1973-13-081 - I did not allow myself more time in Taichung, but went straight back home to Taipei after a somewhat straining trip across the central mountain range in Taiwan - - -

AFTERMATH -

The trip across Taiwan's central mountain range - from east to west - I consider the best road trip I have ever taken - - -

It's simply stunning in all it's unusual beauty - - -

If I should mention a runner-up for the title:  The best road trip in the World - I would also mention the trip from South Africa and up through the Sani Pass - and into the kingdom of Lesotho - - -

This trip you cannot do by a normal car, but must ride a four wheel drive army truck in order to conquer this absolutely crazy,  fantastic mountain pass - - -

But when I talk about the absolutely best road trips in the World it must be kept in mind, that this is MY personnal opinion, - and also I have NOT taken all fantastic roads in the World, but only refer to my own experiences and opinion - - -
