The Temples
Lungshan Temple
The Lungshan Temple has become one of the most popular temples in Taipei, and it is a very good example of typical Taiwanese temple architecture with a touch of southern Chinese influence, with extensive roof decorations of dragons and peacocks.
The temple seems to be well visited by the locals, and the activities there are centered around a mixture of Buddhist and Taoist rites, as well as some old traditional folk believes.
The legend says that a passer-by left an amulet of Guanyin hanging in a tree there, and this amulet were shining so bright both night and day, that it was decided that this spot was a great place to built a temple.
Settlers from China's Fujinan province built the temple in 1738, and the stones that covers the courtyard is said to ballast stones from their ship.
In a corner of the outer courtyard, is a small garden with a waterfall.
This waterfall is a photographers dream, - and therefore I will end my series of the activities in the Longshan Temple with two pictures from this little wonder of natural beauty.
