Island Ullungdo is placed in the middle of the East Sea about 130 km. from the Korean coast, in the triangle between Russia, Japan and Korea.
Again this is one of those "away-from-it-all" places where "Mother Nature" has gone wild and created another masterpiece which is hard to beat.
In fact Ullungdo is one of the most scenic islands I have seen in the World. ( And I have seen a lot!)
It came out of the ocean by volcanic action, and its highest mountain,- Songinbong -, is actually a huge extinct volcano. Traces of that violent volcanic action is clearly seen today, where strange rocks, - rugged and steep -, dominates the scenery, which is wild and extremely beautiful - - -
Best thing is that you have it all to yourself! During the time I spent there exploring the island I did not see one European face, but the Koreans have already discovered this treasure and come by the hundreds via several boat connections from the Korean east coast,- and they leave again heavily loaded with the specialty of the island,- big parcels of dried squid wrapped in plastic!
