M/S "JUTLANDIA"

                                                                 - part 2 -

                                                     - The Engine Room -

Added Page:  2022-04-04

I mentioned in the beginning, that "JUTLANDIA" and her sister had in those days the most powerful diesel plant ever installed in a ship.

Later a Japanese ship was built with slightly more horsepower,- but that more powerful ship "only" had two engines,- while "JUTLANDIA" had three - - -

Therefore I have reason to believe, that the engine room of "JUTLANDIA",- and her sister-, were still the most impressive engine rooms around - - -

Therefore I will include some pictures from one of the mightiest engine rooms the World had ever seen - - -

And here it is!

The top platform of the biggest engine plant in the world -

To the left you see the port side engine with 9 cylinders, - and in the center you have the 12 cylinder engine,- and hidden behind it you can just see the starboard side, 9 cylinder engine,- totally 30 cylinders!

And turbochargers?  Well - the center engine had 4 , - and each side enginge had 3 - totally 10 turbochargers - - -

Fuel valves?  Here we had 90 pieces - - -  30 cylinders with three fuel valves in each - - -  Some job to maintain - - -

Those 3 main engines had 10 turbochargers,- and with 3 fuel injection valves per cylinder,- we have 90 fuel valves!

And the power output?  Just over 80000 IHP -
