Here on St. Thomas we really felt at home, since the Virgin Islands was once a Danish colony, and in the city of Charlotte Amalie, there are still lots of old Danish road signs and Danish architecture from the good old days - - - And tax free Bacardi rum, - and more - - - A perfect place for a boat drill - - -

M/S

M/S "Sargodha" - a "Samoa" sister ship during port maneuvers in Rotterdam, 1969 -

Besides M/S "Samoa" I also served on a sister ship - the M/S "Simba" - beautiful ship - like the "Sargodha" above - - -

M/S "Samoa" is an important ship in my life, because she was the first commercial freight ship on which I ever served - - -

And it was GOOD, - so after "Samoa" I continued to sail at sea for just about 40 years - - - A VERY loooong career on the big oceans of the World - - -

My next ship in the East Asiatic Company was the M/S "Boribana" - a completely different looking class of ship - then home for further studies - because I wanted to obtain a Chief Engineers license for ships of any size and horsepower, - in trade on all oceans - and after I had accomplished that, - it was straight back for another trip on M/S "Boribana" - a ship I will also feature in this web site - - -
