Renamed "Rytterholm" 1971, -

Photographed in Hong Kong 1972.

Note: I have registered this picture as taken in 1972, but if "Martin Bakke" changed name to "Rytterholm" in 1971 it does not make sense.

However, - I also visited Hong Kong late 1971, - hence I could have made a mistake here.

Otherwise it is just another of the unsolved mysteries of the sea.

The Chinese ship "Zhan Dou 16", - as shown in the three following pictures -, is one of the ships I am not sure about. I have no information about her origin or past history, - when and where she was built, - her tonnage, dimensions and propulsion.

The name means "Battle", and in China in those days there were an awful lot of ships carrying that name followed by a number, - like in this case No. 16.

I estimate that she could be from the 1920's - - - Or maybe the 30's???

The Chinese ship "Zhan Dou 16", - as shown in the following two pictures -, is one of the ships I am not sure about.

The name means something like "Battle", "Fight" or "Struggle", and in China in those days there were an awful lot of ships carrying that name followed by a number, - like in this case No. 16.

I estimate that she could be from the 1920's - - - Or maybe the 30's???

However, - some friendly outside source, - expert on Chinese shipping -, is 99,9% sure that this ship has following history:

Built: 1925 in Germany Tons: 4131, - LLP.: 105,3 m, - Beam: 15,5 m, - Propulsion: 1 Steam engine, - 9,5 knots

Built for German flag in 1925 as "Merkator" Renamed 1926: "Eliane L.D.", - 1935: "Lu Hsing", - 1937: "Inviken", - 1947: "Lu Hsing", - 1950: "Storbay", - 1952: "Tai San"

Then she is deleted from Lloyds Register in 1958.

What happens then is unclear, but on the following pictures she shows up again in 1973, - still going strong -, as "Zhan Dou 16"!
